'Housefull 2' emerges the second biggest opener of 2012

Sajid Khan Is having the last laugh! His latest film Housefull 2, sniffed at by critics but wholeheartedly lapped up by aam janta, has emerged the second best opener of the year 2012.

The movie had a stupendous start on the opening day Friday -- a holiday on account of Good Friday -- with a collection of Rs. 14 crore, which is second to Agneepath this year. The occupancy in theatres ranged from 70 percent to 100 percent, meaning housefull. The business did dip slightly on Saturday -- on account of IPL probably -- when the collections slid marginally to Rs. 13 crore. But all the misgivings were put to rest on Sunday when the collections spiked to Rs. 16 crore.

Totting up the figures gives us an aggregate first weekend collection of Rs. 43 crore for Housefull 2. The film has emerged as Akshay Kumar’s biggest opener at box office.

What’s taken everyone by surprise is that Housefull 2 warded off tough competition from IPL 5 and managed to pull in the footfalls.

Moreover, the film is also raking it in at box office abroad, be it in UK, UAE or Australia and New Zealand.

Among the recent previous Bollywood releases Blood Money has just about managed to stay afloat at box office, while Vidya Balan’s Kahaani is a SUPERHIT. Agent Vinod, on the other hand, can be declared a FLOP.

The coming Friday would see the release of Bittoo Boss, starring the newcomer Pulkit Samrat and Amita Pathak.
